Ramadan: Een reis van bezinning, verbinding en geloof

Ramadan: A Journey of Reflection, Connection, and Faith

Introduction

When people think of Ramadan, the first thing that often comes to mind is fasting – refraining from eating or drinking from sunrise to sunset. But for millions of people around the world, Ramadan is so much more than an empty stomach. It is a month of spiritual 'recharging', deep reflection, and an abundance of kindness.

More than just fasting

At the core of Ramadan is Taqwa (God-consciousness). By refraining from physical needs such as food and drink, we make space for our spiritual needs. It is a time to break bad habits, practice patience, and focus on what truly matters.

"Ramadan is a physical shield against bad habits and a spiritual bridge to inner peace."

The beauty of Iftar

The highlight of each day is Iftar, the meal with which the fast is broken. There is something magical about the moment the sun sets. Whether it starts with a simple date and a glass of water or a large family celebration, the atmosphere is one of pure gratitude. It is a time when the community comes together, doors are open to neighbours, and no one eats alone.

A month of giving

Charity, or Zakat, plays a significant role this month. Ramadan reminds us of our privileged position. By feeling the pangs of hunger, our empathy for the less fortunate grows. This leads to incredible acts of generosity worldwide, from local food drives to international aid.

A new beginning

As the month progresses towards Eid al-Fitr (the festival of breaking the fast), we not only celebrate the end of hunger. We celebrate the strength we have found, the prayers we have shared, and the growth we have experienced.

Ramadan Mubarak to everyone celebrating Ramadan! May this month bring you peace and clarity.
